ISO 14224 & SMD — the backbone of our standardisation

ISO 14224 gives us a common language for assets and failures. SMD standardises parts & BOMs. Together they make cross-site data comparable and processes repeatable.

ISO 14224

ISO 14224 — our language for assets & failures

What it is: an international standard for collecting and exchanging reliability & maintenance (RM) data with a consistent equipment taxonomy and defined failure/maintenance fields. It originated in oil & gas, but the data principles apply in any asset‑intensive industry.

SMD

Standard Modifier Dictionary (SMD) — our language for parts & BOMs

What it is: a technical dictionary and naming standard for MRO parts (materials master). It uses structured noun–modifier–attributes–values so descriptions are consistent, unambiguous and searchable.
